Hyatt Centric Congress Avenue Austin
We chose this address because downtown Austin finally has a hotel that wears the city's...
Hotel Magdalena sits on Music Lane, just off South Congress, on the site once occupied by Willie Nelson's legendary Austin Opry House. Rather than treating that history as a footnote, the property leans into it: the grounds are built at shifting elevations, an intentional nod to the slopes around nearby Barton Springs, and the whole design draws on lakeside-cabin living rather than a conventional downtown hotel template. Native Texas plantings, Bigtooth Maples, Yaupon Holly, Little Gem Magnolia, root the grounds in the region rather than a generic tropical resort palette.
We chose Hotel Magdalena for how specifically it reads South Austin. Walnut beds, SFERRA linens, and bold tilework give the rooms a materials-first warmth, and the 900-square-foot pool mirrors Barton Springs' own rock-quarry shape rather than a standard rectangle. It's a hotel that translates a real place, the site, the springs, the music venue that came before it, into physical design choices instead of borrowed mood-board references.
Music Lane puts guests within steps of South Congress Avenue and its downtown skyline views, plus sister properties Hotel Saint Cecilia, Hotel San José, Austin Motel, and Jo's Coffee, effectively a curated micro-neighborhood of its own. The Continental Club, one of Austin's essential live-music venues, sits barely a tenth of a mile away, keeping the property's musical heritage relevant to how guests actually spend an evening.

Room categories range from standard King and Double Queen configurations to King Suites with private terraces or patios and Junior Suites with balconies, all finished in walnut and SFERRA linens with tilework that carries the property's material language into the bathroom. The pool is the clearest expression of the design concept: 900 square feet shaped to recall Barton Springs' natural quarry lines, with Resort Pass access letting non-guests buy in for the day, a signal of how central the pool is to the property's identity.
Summer on Music Lane, the full-service restaurant, builds its menu around what the hotel calls the casual sophistication of a lake-house weekend, a register that suits both a solo breakfast and a group dinner. Magdalena Bar overlooks the pool and leans into frozen and specialty cocktails, including a Frosé regulars specifically travel for, giving the property a genuine day-to-night rhythm rather than separating dining and pool time into different parts of the day.
Hotel Magdalena suits travelers who want to be inside South Congress's walkable cluster of shops, coffee, and music without sacrificing a real pool scene, and its sister-property proximity means a stay here can easily borrow amenities and dining from Hotel Saint Cecilia and Hotel San José nearby. It's better suited to guests planning an active SoCo weekend than a fully secluded retreat, given the neighborhood's foot traffic and the property's own event and wedding bookings.
